Shetland Pony

Our Shetland ponies live in the paddock.  They love to eat carrots and will always come over to say hello if you have a treat for them!

The Shetland Pony originated in the Shetland Isles (northeast of Scotland).

Shetland ponies can live more than 30 years. They have a heavy coat, short legs and are considered quite intelligent.

The harsh conditions of the Shetland Isles have developed this pony to be very strong and hardy, used for riding, harness driving and pack purposes. A Shetland can pull double its own weight! They range in size from 28inches-42inches. Shetlands are generally gentle, good-tempered and very intelligent by nature. Although they have sometimes been noted as having a “brave” character, occasionally cheeky, impatient, snappy or uncooperative. Due to their intelligence and size, they are easily spoiled and can be very headstrong if not well trained.

Miniature Sheltands have been trained as guide horses to take the same role as guide dogs!
